Peter O’Toole Filmed in Whitstable

Whitstable, England is a beautiful coastal town in the southeast region of the country known as Kent. It is approximately 5 miles, or 8 kilometers from Canterbury and is considered to be part of the greater Canterbury district. Much of the architecture in this great town is included in the historical landmarks it is famous for. In addition, famous personalities have lived here, and a local pub became famous for being one of the set locations for the Peter O’Toole film Venus. Guests staying in one of the beautiful Whitstable hotels are drawn to the Old Neptune Pub in greater numbers since the release of this 2006 film. The town also served as one of the settings in Sarah Waters’ novel Tipping the Velvet.

Peter O’Toole was born in August of 1932. There is some debate regarding whether he was actually born in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England or Connemara, Ireland, though both places would love to claim him as their own. He was born to an Irish father and a Scottish mother and lived much of his early childhood touring parts of England. He realized he wanted to pursue acting at a young age studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. He has had an extremely successful career on both the stage and screen and has been nominated for Academy Awards. Interestingly, he holds the record for having received the highest number of Oscar nominations without ever winning the award. Some of the major roles for which he is greatest remembered include T. E. Lawrence in the film Lawrence of Arabia, Henry II in The Lion in Winter and Alan Swann from My Favorite Year. Katharine Hepburn starred opposite O’Toole in The Lion in Winter and played the role of Queen Eleanor. In addition to his tremendous film career he has received create respect and acclaim for his stage career.
