Esplanade Singapore

September 14th, 2009 by Caroline

Singapore has a growing population of tourists, which is representative of the progressive and continual developments in the cultural scene. There are many attractions that entice visitors every year, and the recently developed Singapore Marina has become an extremely popular attraction. The Esplanade area along the water front offers beautiful promenades, such as the Queen Elizabeth Walk, great shopping and restaurants, as well as excellent theatre and other performance genres. The Esplanade Theatres on the Bay is an amazing complex of performances spaces that has quickly become one of the city’s most prestigious and popular entertainment and theatre centers.

The theatrical complex is located near the mouth of the Singapore River along the Marina Bay and offers views that are as exciting and enchanting as the many productions and various other performances it houses. Its two main venues include a 1,600 seat Concert Hall and a theatre that seats 2000. In addition, there are various functional venues, outdoor performance areas, dining establishments and even a library. There is also an amazing outdoor area on the fourth floor, which offers some of the most incredible views possible, and does this among a quiet and relaxing garden atmosphere.

The Concert Hall accommodates various recitals, symphonies, virtuoso solo performances among many others. It has an incredible state of the art sound and acoustics system that is matched by only a select few other performance centers throughout the world. The Theatre in the Esplanade is an incredible performance venue that was designed as a variation on the standard European horseshoe opera house structure. It is equipped to house all kinds of theatrical performances, from major musicals to intimate dramas. The stage is an adjustable proscenium arch and there is an orchestral pit that will accommodate up to one hundred musicians. These two venues alone have housed some of the greatest performances on the Singapore entertainment scene.
