The Valencia Alernative

September 1st, 2009 by Caroline

Valencia is only 200 miles down the coast from Barcelona and offers everything Barcelona has to offer except for the crowds and the prices. Seemingly undiscovered by by the rest of holidaying Europeans. The cathedral there is Valencia on the Plaza de Lorraine is said to house the mythical Holy Grail, a fun stop if you in the area and worth a look. TheĀ  cathedral building dates back to the 13th century and has been added on to over the years creating a miss mash of architectural styles. The striking architecture, bars and night clubs are to rival Barcelona but the crowds and pricing are very different. In the Plaza at 2 PM there is the unique fire setting events, this is a left over of burning left over wood on St Josephs day to mark the beginning of spring. This happens daily through the early summer locals leave their work place to enjoy the fire setting then return to work. The fire sets off fireworks that are very loud. The river bed was transformed in 1976 to the Center for Arts and Sciences with its amazing modern architecture and a beautiful collection of art and fascinating science exhibits. From your 5 star hotels Valencia you can visit Europe’s largest aquarium there are over 500 diff species of marine animals and divided into climate zones representing the Arctic, tropical etc. Just like scuba diving without the gear. Valencia beaches offer everything you would expect. Not only a relaxing day sunning, but swimming, surfing, sailing, boat tours, fishing, para sailing, beach combing, biking, hiking and simply exploring. Valencia is an undiscovered jewel on the Mediterranean coast without the usual crowds and the pricing driven by tourists as you would expect in such a beautiful place. The city is not a visited by tourists as other Spanish cities and here the night
