Chillaxing in Brisbane

October 19th, 2009 by Caroline

We headed out to Glasshouse Mountains, it was our first full day in Australia and we wanted to make the most of it. Captain Cook named the mountains, because they kind of look like glass furnaces. When we reached Glasshouse Mountains it became very foggy, so we were unable to thoroughly enjoy their beauty. We decided then to continue on to Montville Village, which was one of our family’s favorite places to visit when on holiday. The town seems like a small English village and it has spectacular views of the mountainous country side. We really like the souvenir shops. After an early lunch we caught a bus to the Australia Zoo. It was the home of Steve Erwin, the famous Crocodile Hunter. Even though, he’s no longer there, we had a great time attending the crocodile show. Seeing the native Australian animals, like the koalas, cassowaries, wombats, Tasmanian devils and a tortoise that was 175 years old! This tortoise was the tortoise that belonged to Charles Darwin.

After that, we went to Rainbow beach and spent the next two nights there.  The following morning, was at the beach. We all had a ton of fun swimming, building sand castles and just plain old relaxing. Later, we climbed up to the top of the Rainbow Mountain and watched hang-gliders launch. We we amazed at the enormity of the sand dunes. As we watched the hang-gliders the sun was setting in the west and a beautiful double rainbow appeared in the east over the ocean. We really couldn’t have asked for more, the double rainbow at Rainbow Mountain! We decided to head back to Brisbane and check into one of the Brisbane boutique hotels we can then be pampered.  The first part of our holiday was for our children, but now, heading to Brisbane is for the adults.
