Well, when we think of Florida we think of checking into one of the many Florida beach hotels and heading straight for the sand. How often can a person from a big city, mountain or desert just sit along a sandy beach listening to the waves and seagulls moving by and nap when ever possible or needed. So that is the real main attraction to coming to a Florida beach town. However, at some point you may want to move a bit. So you get up from the sand and dust off your feet and put on your flip flops and head out onto the boardwalk. Sit in a restaurant and have some lunch and beer and watch all the people walking by. It’s fun to wonder where they are from. I bet you can make a good guess that it could be Manhattan or Chicago.
Now that you have fueled up and quenched yourself, it’s time to see what else there is to do. If your in Fort Myers beach there are some attractions around to see. How about checking out some of the old summer homes of the rich and/or famous. The old estates of Thomas Edison and Henry Ford are available to tour. They have some beautiful botanical tours as well as a museum and even a look into the laboratory. It is considered the ninth most visited historical home in the country.
If you are hooked on going to more museums than check out the Fort Myers Historical Museum. You can learn about the early settlers that began the shaping of this sunshiny state. The building is the home of the old Atlantic Coastline Railroad Depot on Peck Street. They tell the story of the Calusa, Paleo and Seminole Native Americans and how they adjusted to the settlement of new explorers. You can wander the exhibits at your own pace or take a guided tour with a group.
