Cosmic Hot Tub Laws

Posted by Greg on December 15th, 2009 and filed under Health, History | No Comments »

There’s an old cosmic law that speaks to a mystical principle worthy of contemplation: As above, so below.  This comes from an old idea that the physical world is a reflection of some ethereal realm, and it’s had a lot of traction through the ages.  The alchemists used it as one of their great principles when they were in pursuit of the great work, turning base matter into gold.  It’s also something that was internalized during the renaissance, where the idea also could be applied to a human being.  Where the interior of a person was a reflection of the exterior, the inner life being a mirror of the surroundings, and vice versa.  It’s an old notion, and one that we’ve inherited in the history of ideas, and may not even be conscious for most people.

But there’s no doubt that having a hot tub in your own yard is a reflection of the good life, and it’s something that contemporary culture has as an icon of a life well spent.  You may not have it in mind that you’re taking part in an iconic event when you start browsing through the excellent selection at choosehottubsdirect.com, but you’ll probably notice that their excellent customer service lives up to all the website promises.  That’s a good thing for building customer trust, because it’s important to work with a company that practices what it preaches, especially when you’re making an important investment like this.

You’ll probably start to sense that you are indeed living the good life when you start spending evenings relaxing in your hot tub.  The exquisite feeling of the water and the jet massage will take you away from all the worries of the day, and you start to get a sense of perspective on things.  Here, the notion of reflection and inner life really does come into play.  A physical object as wonderful as this does truly suggest that you’ve arrived at the life you’ve always wanted.  The sense of equilibrium you have when you’re spending time coming to your senses in your backyard might be an enactment of a great cosmic principle, but it’s also pretty spectacular fun as well.

Hot Tubs and a Healthy Lifestyle

There are many aspects to living a healthy life, such as proper exercise and good eating habits.  One of the aspects that many people may tend to over look is the overall effects of living in today’s hectic world.  And that is stress, the taking care of your mental health as well as your physical, this is what a portable hot tub will provide.  For years people have taken in account the many health benefits that soaking in water provides.  And with a hot tub or a spa in your own backyard, you not only enjoy the benefits of lowered stress levels, but the physical benefits as well.  Your blood pressure will fall while your circulation increases.  Aches and pains will melt away, and the hot water and the steam will serve to detoxify all of the cells of your body.

The ancient Egyptians, as well as many of the ancient cultures throughout the world, know this long ago.  For their times, the medical practitioners were extremely advanced technicians, in ways of healing and the anatomy of the human body, due to the extensive ceremonial practice of mummification.  They understood certain effects of diet and illnesses on the body because they had intensive experience with performing autopsies, just as the master painters and sculptors such as Michelangelo, they new the human body inside and out.

Often utilized in treatments and in therapies, was what is now know today in modern medicine as hydrotherapy.  There were many aspects of medicine that they did not understand in the ways that we do today, but many of their choices and diagnoses where right on the mark, and while soaking in water did have ritual meanings, it also had healing effects.  Today hot tub therapy is used for many different illnesses and physical ailments, and of course in the treatment of stress reduction, depression and sleep disorders.  Adding a hot tub into your daily life, your daily rituals will give you the opportunity to enjoy what the ancients enjoyed, peace of mind and care of the body.

Methamphetamine on the Rise in North America

Posted by Greg on September 24th, 2009 and filed under Health | No Comments »

One of the most addictive drugs our country has to deals with today is methamphetamine (meth).  Not only does it present risks to the user and those close to them, but also the community.  As a result of the highly unstable properties of the chemicals used to make meth (paint thinner, lithium batteries, chlorine, and bleach just to name a few), especially once they are combined and heated, many people each year are injured or killed and property damaged by fires and explosions of methamphetamine drug houses.  However, research shows that the number of drug houses has decreased with the increase in education about the dangers of meth use and as well as the increased regulations on the purchase the chemicals required to make it.  Unfortunately, foreign drug markets have filled in where the local markets left off.  The amounts of meth coming in from Mexico and even Canada have made of up for the lack of American supply.

The risk, however, is not only restricted to fires from cooking this highly addictive drug.  There are just as many, if not more dangers to those who use. Once the user has injected, snorted, smoked, or ingested the meth they receive a “rush” that is increasing the amount of dopamine their brain receives.  The result is extreme wakefulness, physical activity, and a decrease in appetite.  It can also cause an increase in blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, and hyperthermia.  After prolonged use, symptoms of paranoia and hallucinations begin to appear.  Even after the user has stopped, there are health problems that will remain for the rest of their lives.  These include loss of memory, impaired verbal learning, and change in emotional function.

The only treatment currently available is attendance at an addiction treatment center.  There are no medications currently approved to help with methamphetamine addiction treatment.  The journey to recovery is long, with high chance of relapse, but through rehab, and sometimes dual diagnosis treatment, users have gone on to live happy, successful lives.

Kids and Substance Abuse

When it comes to kids and drugs the best prevention is early intervention.  While it is important keep things on a level that they can understand, it is never too early to start talking to your kids about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse.  The earlier you start talking to them about the risks involved in using drugs, the less likely they will be to try it.  Maintaining an open line of communication is an essential part of keeping your kids off drugs.

Kids try drugs for various reasons: fitting in, peer- pressure, curiosity, boredom, stress. Early adolescence is a very tumultuous time for kids.  Being aware of what is going on in their lives, what they’re thinking, what they’re feeling could make the difference in whether or not they even consider trying drugs. Understanding and then explaining to your child the long term effects of addiction is key in the battle against substance abuse.  Not only do drugs do damage to your body, like kill brain cells and damage your lungs and kidneys, drugs also impair your ability to make good choices which can put you into even more dangerous situations.  And once addicted the addiction treatment process is long and slow, often requiring attendance at an addiction treatment center.

There are many resources and programs that are now available to help parents and kids maintain a drug and alcohol free life.   The D.A.R.E program is one such program that goes into elementary schools and helps to educate kids in a fun way about the risks of drug and alcohol use.  However, education must begin in the home.  Parents are still the number one anti-drug.  Let’s stop this cycle of abuse before one more child gets sucked into the world of drugs and one more parent has to stage an alcohol drug intervention to save them.

The Benefits of Drug Rehab

Posted by Greg on September 17th, 2009 and filed under Health | No Comments »

There are many long term benefits of attending drug rehab, both for the individual and the community.  Drug addiction reeks havoc on an untold number of families each year.  Drugs separate children from their parents, spouses, friends and neighbors.  By reaching out for help, families can begin to put the pieces back together and join together in support of the one needing help.  Many individuals also face losing their jobs over drug addiction because they are often late, absent, or unable to focus.  Once on the street they face the risk of violent injury or disease from poor hygiene and often sharing needles. Drug rehab can help them regain the confidence to get their family life and work life back on track.

On a community level, drug rehab helps to lower the crime rate.  The addictive qualities of drugs bring people down so far that they are willing to do most anything for the next high.  Many of the burglaries that are committed from homes and cars are committed by addicts looking for products to sell so they can buy more drugs.  Other more violent crimes, such as assault and murder, are also committed over drugs.  These actions put the lives of civilians and police officers at risk.

It is not an easy for an individual to admit that they need addiction treatment, so often the friends or family must join together and stage an alcohol drug intervention.  Interventions are not easy on the family or the addict but it needs to be done—the sooner the better.  Depending on the circumstances, insurance companies will even help cover the expenses for an individual to receive treatment.   Once they are through rehab the individual will once again be free to thrive, then the family will thrive, and the community will thrive.

What does Polydrug mean?

Posted by Greg on June 19th, 2009 and filed under Health | No Comments »

A polydrug means using two psychoactive drugs at once. They are used to achieve a particular effect. This is sometimes called “cross fading” and can lead to being dependent on several drugs at once.

Doing this can carry a lot more risk than just using a single drug at a time. This can also exist if you are mixing prescription drugs as well. Or if you are mixing drugs and alcohol together. Doing this may lead to the likelihood of overdose being much higher.

Poly drug use normally results in accidental overdoses. This could be what happened to Anna Nicole Smith, the actress and Playboy model. Because of her cocktail of prescription drugs she may have accidentally overdosed. The danger of overdosing with this type of drug use is high. The problem is when prescription drugs are being prescribed by more than one doctor it can be difficult to anticipate the kind of reaction the patient will have.

Drug rehab may be necessary to get off this kind of cycle. Drug addiction treatment is likely in this kind of drug use as well.

Please contact a drug treatment center or drug rehab for more information regarding the dangers of mixing drugs and alcohol.

Hydroxycut gets recalled

Posted by Greg on June 11th, 2009 and filed under Health | No Comments »

Hydroxycut has recalled 14 of their products after they were linked to cases of serious liver damage and the death of a 19-year-old boy. The Food and Drug Administration warns dieters and body builders to stop using Hydroxycut immediately as they have received 23 reports of serious liver problems in consumers.

Hydroxycut has not commented on the recall. It is still undetermined which ingredient in the dietary supplement may cause liver damage.

The amount of people abusing over the counter drugs including diet pills are increasing. Dr. Phil recently said on his website about diet pills, “If you are addicted to diet pills, you are addicted to drugs. Diet pills are drugs. Some of them are over the counter and that doesn’t mean they’re less potent; that just means they are less controlled. They can be just as dangerous as what you get by prescription. If you have someone that is living between diet pills, just one pill to the next in order to lose weight or keep their weight down, that is a dangerous addiction. The fact that it may come from a doctor or over the counter at the store doesn’t change its physical and psychological threat to your well-being.

Diet pills do not work. They do not keep you under control long term. And they can be addictive and are very, very dangerous. This young woman that we’ve had on the show is so addicted to the diet pills that her ability to even sit still is compromised. She has a number of health-related problems, but the addiction continues to control.”

Experts suggest contacting an drug treatment program or drug rehab program for more information on over the counter drug abuse or if you are in need of drug rehab.

Can Addiction Be Overcome By Reading a Book

Posted by Greg on March 3rd, 2009 and filed under Health, News | No Comments »

There have been many books written about how to overcome addiction.  Many individuals have become pseudo celebrities based on the books or programs they’ve developed which tell people how to successfully overcome their addictions and go on to achieve successful lives.  It is difficult to believe that people can fully rehabilitate themselves simply by reading about how to do it.  Many of these destructive behaviors that are displayed by those with addiction problems can’t be unlearned overnight and need many months; if not years of constant work to claim that they’ve been overcome.

Whether an addict attempts to overcome their addiction issues through a book, movie, or traditional drug rehabilitation program, it will not be successful unless that person is really ready and willing to change their lives.  This usually begins with them admitting they have a problem in the first place, and then taking the necessary actions and steps to deal with the issue.  If the person is not willing to accept that there is an issue to begin with, they are not going to be willing to invest the time or effort that is required to see a full recovery, and when they do leave treatment the likelihood of relapse is very strong.  If somebody doesn’t believe there previous behaviors were damaging or impacting their lives negatively in any way they will see no reason to stop those behaviors upon leaving the drug or alcohol rehab they were attending.  It is important to make sure that before admitting a loved one or friend to rehab, that they are willing to go and are actively looking to change their lives.  If not, it’s not worth spending the time and effort asking them to change.

Jalapeño Pepper Could Make You Sick

Posted by Alice on July 22nd, 2008 and filed under Health | No Comments »

The Food and Drug Administration cautioned consumers to avoid fresh tomatoes in a salmonella outbreak early this summer. Recently, the warning labels came off of tomatoes and have now been placed on jalapeños. The San Francisco Chronicle gives an excellent overview of the current bacteria crisis, going through the history of the problem over the past few months and delving into the current situation. Texas has been the state impacted the most. According to the article, over 400 cases of illness have been reported in the state. The FDA and Center for Disease Control are investigating the origins of the outbreak, with suspicions currently resting on farms in Mexico.

Until the epidemic is resolved, consumers are cautioned to avoid the pepper to avoid illness. In summary pickled, cooked and pasteurized jalapeños have been cleared for consumption, whereas putting the pepper in fresh salads could be more dangerous.

Alcoholism Recovery and the Right Rehab

Posted by Greg on May 14th, 2008 and filed under Health | No Comments »

Alcoholism recovery can be very challenging. It’s hard to take that first step and admit there is a problem. It is also hard to find the right program out of all of the addiction recovery programs that are around. The choice can be made simpler when you take into consideration the important things that the center should offer. If one that you are considering does not offer any of the following, please reconsider.

The facility should have a place for you to go through the detoxification process or they should tell you where to go to have that done. They alcohol and drug abuse rehabilitation center should also offer individual, group and family therapy. If they do not offer any of these, they are not taking into consideration all of the aspects of your life and those different areas could very well be full of triggers that could cause you to relapse.

Many treatment centers also do not have age restrictions. If you are a teenager, you should not be in treatment with people in their forties. They are not in the same place as you and it could be dangerous. Likewise, most young adults do not have the same issues as older adults and the older adults need to examine those things.

Overall, when choosing a rehab, ask questions and make sure you are comfortable with the place you choose.
